RECOVERY, RECOVERY, RECOVERY

I just can’t emphasize the vital importance of muscle recovery enough.  As you start to reap the benefits of a good resistance training regime, you may be tempted to go to extremes by going at it non-stop. That’s what happened to me. I was doing full body workouts with weights daily for a long period of time to gain hypertrophy – working the same muscles every day without a break hoping for better results.  The reality is that I was creating too much damage to my muscles with insufficient recovery time for them to repair and grow.  Muscle growth occurs during recovery – they need 24 to 48 hours to repair and grow to gain hypertrophy.

My lack of recovery time resulted in multiple chronic over-use injuries, including tennis and golfer’s elbows, strained biceps, and shoulders, as well as rotator cuff inflammation.  To recover, I had to cease working out completely for 6 months and resorted to acupuncture, deep-tissue and physiotherapy rehab therapy to heal. It sucked - I gained weight and lost all my muscle mass – the complete opposite results I was striving for.  That’s what really caused me to re-evaluate effective fitness and nutrition, and that’s when I decided to become a certified personal trainer to “do it right” and make it sustainable.

Ever since I adopted ample and appropriate recovery time for all muscle groups in my workouts, I’ve never looked back, and the results of a modified age-appropriate workout regime has left me injury-free and feeling like a million bucks.  I want to coach you to do the same – it is life-changing and can be very sustainable and rewarding!! I am now back to doing intense and balanced high-rep 5-day splits with amazing results and high energy.
